Mini Cherry Apple Crumbles

Cherries are such a treat; they only come around once a year, and, even then, you’re lucky when you get a good batch after you’ve spent 15 minutes sorting through the pre-filled bags at the grocery store looking for the best one. I could eat them endlessly, popping them individually in my mouth, slowly rolling the fruit around, softly biting it and expertly de-pitting it with my tongue. Or when I de-pit them for a fruit salad, the deep, rich colour of the juice staining my fingertips as I individually slice each gorgeous little cherry.

I recently bought a really good batch of cherries, and the boyfriend and I had been enjoying them fresh in fruit salad. But I got really excited when I saw this recipe for Cherry Crumbles on the PBS Food website, and decided to make my own version by combining two of my favourite fruits: cherries and apples!

The result was delicious! The combination of a MacIntosh apple and the cherries was perfect, and I loved serving it for the boyfriend and I in my cute red ramekins. I also liked that by swapping out some of the cherries for the cored, peeled and chopped apple, it is a bit more cost effective (cherries are cheap, yo!) What is your favourite kind of crumble/crisp?
